Nature’s larder! What’s your favourite ingredient to forage for in the wild? I’ve been foraging for wild garlic (Ramsons) in my canoe. Don’t try this at home folks, unless you have a canoe and live near a river. 🤣 To be fair, you don’t need a canoe to find wild garlic. It’s very common in damp woodlands and in other areas of the countryside. You’ll probably find loads of wild garlic growing in the countryside near you. Do always ask the landowners permission though and don’t trespass. Also do a

Usually, when we are foraging in the woods or our backyard, it’s for food or medicine… But I thought I’d try something new this week! I learned about English ivy’s natural saponins years ago, and have heard of folks using it as laundry detergent or dish soap, but had never gotten around to trying it out. The making process could not be easier! I haven’t tried it in the laundry as I’m nervous to mess up the appliance or my clothes… But it seems to work pretty well for dishes. 🧼 Want to try?🧼 Pl

Foraging is a beautiful and timeless tradition, but we ask visitors to Natural Lands’ preserves to leave roots, berries, mushrooms, and other plants behind for the benefit of the insects and animals who call our properties home. However, we do encourage folks to learn how and where to responsibly forage elsewhere in the wild. The following local resources are a sound place to start: 🌱 Awbury Arboretum 🌱 Sign up for their Wild Wisdom classes for multi-season, hands-on foraging and cooking class

What is the best thing you can do on Earth Day? You can check out my “How to Start Foraging Guide” (link in my bio) to learn how to do so safely and responsibly. I hope you decide to explore the abundance offered to us directly from the wild through foraging this year. It’s changed my life, and I think it will do the same for you. Here are a few things you can look out for to forage around this time! Black locust is blooming which has some of the most delicious edible blossoms of any wild plant

Foraging wild garlic is a great way to add a garlic flavor to any dish without even growing it yourself. This stuff grows everywhere and is difficult to confuse with anything harmful because it has a very familiar garlic aroma when crush in your hand and also there aren’t any known poisonous alliums. That being said, always be 110% sure about what you’re foraging.

One of my favourite easy foods to forage - samphire! Used in so many fancy restaurants and pretty expensive to buy, it’s always satisfying to be able to find and pick it for free! It’s also super tasty and easy to identify (though you should always double check if you’re unsure). Happy foraging! 💚 #foraging #foragingtiktok
