There isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” approach when it comes to what the visual schedule will look like. Some children might be perfectly fine wi

The one visual that supports your child in SO many ways! A visual schedule was the first visual support that I implemented with every student when I was an autism teacher. Why? Because it’s the one support that has such a long list of benefits. We are able to target behaviors, lower anxiety, increase independence, improve participation, and more! This visual schedule (plus more!) is available inside The Autism Consultant Membership. If you are already a member, you can access your visuals by… ➡️

Visual supports can be SO beneficial! What does a visual-rich environment look like for your child?! When it comes to using visuals with your child, you want them to be accessible, make sense for your child’s daily activities, improve independence, lower anxiety, improve comprehension, and help with communication. My best tip for creating a visual-rich environment is to start small and keep it manageable. DO NOT implement several visuals all at once. This will overwhelm both yourself and your ch

Don’t forget the MOST important step when using visual supports…you have to take the time to MODEL how to use and interact with the visual the correct way. Placing a brand new visual support in front of a child and expecting them to know how to engage with it won’t work. All of these visuals are included inside The Autism Consultant membership. Comment the word MEMBERSHIP and I’ll send you the link! If you are already a member, you can access your visuals by… ➡️ logging into the membership app ➡

Objects of reference are physical objects that represent a specific person, activity, place, or idea. They are used to support communication and understanding for individuals who may struggle with traditional methods like spoken language or symbols.Essentially, they act as a tangible link to something else, helping individuals anticipate, understand, and participate in events. 🙌💜💙💚💛❤️ #autismparents #autismawareness #autismsupport #communication | Autistic Arlo

If you are wanting to get started using VISUAL SUPPORTS with your autistic child, I recommend starting with a visual schedule and here’s why… A visual schedule is the one visual support that has the longest list of benefits. These benefits include… •Increase independence…picture your child getting ready in the morning or completing their chores on their own! •Lower anxiety- and we all know that this can improve behaviors, mood, willingness to try new things, etc. •Improve participation in daily
