Last weekend, Atkinson Construction installed this 223-foot-long, 246,500-pound record-setting girder on the new southbound I-5 Puyallup River bridge in Tacoma. We pulled together a video of the installation. It's the longest prestressed girder ever manufactured in the United States. Over the weekend, our crews completed demolition of the old 112th Ave SE bridge and installing a 200-foot-long culvert under northbound and southbound I-405. While the old bridge served us well for decades, the new bridge is longer to accommodate widening and additional lanes on I-405.
