Eddie Garcia, the former Dallas police chief, has been named the new chief of the Fort Worth Police Department, City Manager Jay Chapa announced Thursday afternoon.

Eddie Garcia was chief of police in Dallas and served as an assistant city manager in Austin prior to being tapped for FWPD's top job.

After leading police departments in California and Dallas, Eddie Garcia is stepping into a new role as Fort Worth’s police chief. Known for his results-driven leadership, Garcia left a legacy in Dallas where crime rates dropped and officer morale improved during his tenure.
