But as the Giants wrap up their 2025 preseason against the New England Patriots, Dart’s ascension into the full-time starting role is going to have to wait, not because he hasn’t made progress since setting foot in East Rutherford as a member of the team, but because of the circumstances.

It all adds up to this: If Wilson struggles early against a brutal schedule (Commanders, Cowboys, Chiefs, Chargers), Daboll could turn to Dart sooner rather than later, as the hot-seat coach tries to keep his job.

The New York Giants signed free agent quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year deal in March in an effort to add quality depth to the position, a couple days before Russell Wilson landed with the franchise.

Once the regular season begins those strides will continue to be taken by Dart behind the scenes, in meetings and practices away from the scrutiny of media and the fans. That, though, won’t last forever. Dart’s time is coming.
