A new era for Everton FC begins today as the club's new Hill Dickinson Stadium hosts its first competitive match. David Moyes' side face Brighton at 2pm today (August 24), hoping to kick start their Premier League season after a disappointing defeat against Leeds on Monday.

After an initial estimate of £500m, the actual cost of Everton’s new home is £802m. This makes it the second most-expensive stadium of all time in the Premier League, behind Tottenham’s new venue, which cost over £1 billion to build. The stadium name comes as a result of a ‘long-term agreement’ with the Liverpool-based law firm, Hill Dickinson.

Everton kicked off a new era at gleaming Hill Dickinson Stadium with fireworks and towering blue plumes of smoke on Sunday, 133 years to the day since Goodison Park had opened.
