Former President Barack Obama waded in to support California Democrats tit-for-tat efforts to more extremely gerrymander the states congressional lines "as a responsible approach" to counter Texas efforts at redrawing its own maps.

The California Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected an effort by Republican legislators to delay Democrats from gerrymandering the state's congressional districts. The justices said the legal challenge, filed earlier this week, "failed to meet their burden of establishing a basis for relief at this time under" the California Constitution.

The Texas House is scheduled to try convening a quorum again at noon, with absent Democrats expected to return.
