The Atlantic coastline is vulnerable to tsunamis triggered by earthquakes and landslides across the ocean basin
The Suffolk County Department of Health Services said Atlantic beaches in Suffolk County would remain closed to swimmers through Saturday morning due to hazardous rip currents from the storm that are expected to remain over the weekend. Earlier in the day, the department had said the closures would last until Saturday night.

According to flight tracker FlightAware, Air France flight AF9 left JFK at 12:28 a.m. local time on Tuesday, Aug. 19. As the Paris-bound Boeing 777-300ER made its way over the Atlantic, it diverted back to its origin at 1:14 a.m.
