One player seems to be slightly in the lead. That would be former Arizona prep star Spencer Rattler. Battling with rookie Tyler Shough, drafted in the second round this year, Rattler is starting in the Saints' preseason finale and has been taking more of the first-team snaps in practice.

The Saints have not announced their starting quarterback for the first week of the regular season, but they have made their choice for the final week of the preseason.

Head coach Kellen Moore said Rattler would start but both he and Tyler Shough would play in the team's final 2025 NFL preseason game against the Denver Broncos.

Spencer Rattler, a fifth-round sophomore who was drafted by the previous regime, and Tyler Shough, the 40th overall pick in the 2025 draft, who was handpicked by Kellen Moore, are in a tight battle with no clear leader heading into the final week of the preseason.

The New Orleans Saints have stiill not accounced who their starting quarterback will be despite other teams with noteworthy quarterback competiititons doing the same.
