Kristen Crowley, the former chief of the Los Angeles Fire Department, filed a legal claim against the city and Mayor Karen Bass following her ousting.

In a legal claim, the former fire chief says she was scapegoated amid mounting criticism of Bass’ decision to attend a ceremony in Ghana on Jan. 7, when the fire erupted.

The claim alleges that the 25-year career of a public servant was destroyed not because of any failure in Crowley’s duties, but because she told the truth.
