The students were participating in something called the Tik Tok "Orbeez Challenge," in which students use airsoft or BB guns to shoot BBs or pellets at other students, according to authorities.

On Thursday, Academy School District 20 sent a letter to the community addressing a "Tik Tok" challenge that promoted school violence.

The challenge started on Tik Tok with students taking fake guns to school, recording their interactions with other students and uploading the video.

The challenge has appeared on the Tik Tok app. School officials addressed it during a virtual town hall Wednesday night that was streamed on the district’s Facebook page.
