U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas, who has represented Austin in Congress for 30 years, said Thursday he might not seek reelection in 2026 if the state’s newly approved redistricting map remains in place.

The move comes after the redistricting effort came to a standstill in the lower chamber earlier this month, after more than 50 Texas Democrats fled the Lone Star State to block the map.

The Texas House passed the GOP's redistricting plan, moving the new congressional map to the State Senate. Now, California Democrats are moving to combat those Republican gains. NBC News' Ryan Chandler reports from Texas and NBC News' Dana Griffin reports from California.
