While Ron Howard and the star-studded cast of Eden, including Sydney Sweeney, Ana de Armas and Vanessa Kirby, could enjoy the luxuries of modern life every night thanks to a 45-minute drive back to the Gold Coast in a “perfectly reasonable apartment”, per Howard, they were absolutely exposed to the elements on the shoot. As the director shared:
A review of 'Eden' from director Ron Howard tells story of emigres to uncharted island for some not-so-fun in the sun and much more mystery as well
Jude Law and Ana de Armas star in 'Eden,' and its shocking ending reveals who died and who survived in the Galápagos islands thriller adventure
At the end of Eden (2024), Ritter dies from food poisoning after eating contaminated chicken served by Dore Strauch. His physical decline is sudden and shocking. Jude Law portrays Ritter’s suffering with restrained dread, stiff limbs, and labored breathing right up to the end of the scene, which is terrifying.
Ron Howard's Eden is based on a real story of Europeans who tried to start a utopia on the Galapagos island of Floreana
What if nine Europeans, disillusioned by mass poverty and social unrest in a 1920s post-Great War Germany, attempt to start anew on a Galápagos island?
Eden’ is a star-studded survival thriller of power, betrayal and human nature. Here’s what to know before watching.
Eden is not streaming on Netflix or Prime Video right now. While it’s possible Eden may stream on Netflix someday, it won’t be until after the theatrical run and digital release of the movie. Eden is not a Netflix original—it’s a small, independent film being distributed by Vertical in the U.S.
His latest effort on that front is Eden, which fans have been waiting for since its Toronto International Film Festival debut nearly a year ago. It’s a wild one, even more so considering that it’s based on a true story, of an eclectic group of misfits who attempt to live very, very off the grid.
"Eden" is no paradise. Ron Howard's tale about a group of European settlers who attempt to carve out their own slice of heaven on an uninhabited piece of land in the Galápagos Islands rests unsteadily between drama and camp, as the director and cast never seem to be on the same page about what movie they're making.
Law, in a a scenery-chewing performance, plays the brilliant Dr. Friedrich Ritter. He flees 1920s Germany with his wife (Vanessa Kirby) to settle on the uninhabited Galápagos island of Floreana so he can focus on his book about how to save the world.
