Eddie Garcia, the former Dallas police chief, has been named the new chief of the Fort Worth Police Department, City Manager Jay Chapa announced Thursday afternoon.

Dallas’ former police chief is now the top cop in Fort Worth. “The 28th police chief for the Fort Worth Police Department will be Eddie Garcia,” Fort Worth City Manager Jesus “Jay” Chapa announced via a news release Thursday afternoon.

Former Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia was selected to lead the Fort Worth Police Department's nearly 1,900 officers over Fort Worth Interim Police Chief Robert Alldredge Jr. and former Dallas Police Deputy Chief Vernon Hale, who most recently served as Prince George’s County Police Department assistant chief of police in Maryland.
