Gov. Polis calls for Pueblo County Coroner to resign after decomposing bodies found in funeral home
PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) - Governor Jared Polis called for Pueblo County Coroner Brian Cotter to resign immediately on Friday. This comes after authorities announced an investigation into Cotter on Thursday, accusing him of hiding decomposing bodies in his funeral home.
Pueblo families gathered at a candlelight vigil on Aug. 21 after a state inspection found decomposing bodies in a concealed room at Davis Mortuary.
A county coroner in Colorado has been accused of stowing bodies inside his private mortuary for years — with "around 20 or so" being found by authorities "in just a regular room" — in various stages of decomposition,
The owner told inspectors that some of the bodies found at his funeral home had been waiting to be cremated for years.
Around 20 decomposing bodies were discovered in a hidden room concealed by a cardboard display at Davis Mortuary in Pueblo. Now families are concerned that what they believed to be cremains of their loved ones may not be what they thought.
