Millions of SNAP recipients are about to face new limitations on what they can use the federal assistance program to buy, including bans on soda, energy drinks and candy, according to the U.S.

Louisiana will restrict the use of SNAP benefits for certain food items starting February 18, 2026. The new rules prohibit using SNAP funds to buy soft drinks, energy drinks, candy, gum, and mints.
