WASHINGTON, Jan 7 (Reuters) - The White House is withdrawing its nomination of Ryan Baasch for a Federal Trade Commission seat and instead naming him deputy director of the National Economic Council, elevating his role in shaping tech, telecom and competition policy, a White House official told Reuters.

According to the FTC's report, there was a spike in reported losses from fraud among people 60 years and older. The FTC reported a rise from $600 million in losses in 2020, to $2.4 billion in losses in 2024.

The move, which stems from President Trump’s 2025 AI action plan, shows the FTC’s willingness to afford AI firms “a relatively longer leash,” Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein attorneys wrote.
