GIRARD - North State Street and Gordon Street in Girard have reopened to one lane of traffic following a house explosion in the area Thursday morning. However, according to a news release from the office of the city’s Safety Service Director,

GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) — An explosion at a home in Girard forced the evacuation of nearby homes and businesses. Crews were called Thursday morning to the 1000 block of N. State Street for a gas leak when the explosion happened.

Within seconds of being knocked back, the responding officers were back up, checking on each other and evacuating stunned residents.

Five people were hospitalized, including three in critical condition, after two separate homes exploded hours apart on the same street Wednesday evening.
